I graduated in 1976 from the Vesper George School of Art in Boston with a major in Graphic Design. In 1985 I started my own business and continue to operate as of this writing. About 15 years ago, I decided to return to my roots... the field of comics. I’d grown up reading Superman, Batman, Spider-man and all the other classic series from Marvel & DC. As a child, I’d studied the work of comic strip creators Al Capp, Walt Kelley, Charles Sculz and Hal Foster. Later on, I was influenced by the dynamic illustrations of John Buscema, Russ Manning, Jack Kirby, Curt Swan, Neal Adams, Carmine Infantino and Al Williamson.
The first comic I developed was Rafferty, a humor strip about a sarcastic raccoon. Originally seeking syndication without success, I decided to join forces with Brian Codagnone, another cartoonist and VGU Graduate and form our own webcomic site, CorbettFeatures.com. The site updates daily and offers 6 different cartoon features and a humor column by Brian.
We marketed our cartoons for a few years and managed to publish in some national publications and local newspapers. My panel cartoons have appeared in Reader's Digest, First Magazine, Prospect Magazine, American Legion Magazine, Fantasy & Science Fiction, Lacrosse Magazine, The CityTown Extra, Discoveries, True West Magazine, Bounce Magazine, The Maple Leaf News, Skipping Stones, Kid Zones, The Valley News, Bounce, Outer Darkness, The Chicago Loop News, The Artist’s Magazine, and FiftySomething Magazine.
Later on, we branched out and formed Griffin Comics. We published a Star Crossed comic book in 2003 and a graphic novel in 2004 entitled Gormon: The Sentinel Awakes.
Following Rafferty, I developed a romantic fantasy called Star Crossed and our caption writing contest, Writer's Block. Eventually, I collected all the pun-related gags and published a paperback called Embrace the Pun! in 2007. The book pays tribute to this much-maligned form of humor.
My newest comic strip is Ginger & Shadow, which chronicles the adventures of two mismatched cats & their adopted family. In early 2008 I collected 160 strips and published "Kitty Nirvana: the First Ginger & Shadow Collection". Ginger and Shadow is based on our real cats. They are your classic odd-couple pairing— two personalities who couldn’t be any more different. It can be found at all the major booksellers or ordered directly through Baker & Taylor.
The second Ginger & Shadow collection was released in 2012. "It's A cat Thing" can be found at CreateSpace and Amazon.
"Revenge of the Pun" was released in 2008 and has won two awards in self publishing. It's available at Lulu.com, the i-Bookstre and Amazon, in both print and e-book formats.
I have published short stories in two Science Fiction magazines, "Bards & Sages Quarterly" and "The Colored Lens."
In 2017 I joined Boston Paranormal Investigators, and served as Lead Investigator for six years. In 2024, FontHill Media published my first book of paranormal tales, "The Boston Paranormal Archives."
I taught Basic Cartooning and Adobe InDesign at North Shore Community College in Beverly, MA and Middlesex Community College in Bedford.
I was adjunct faculty at The New England Institute of Art in Brookline, MA, teaching Digital Graphic Design at The Center for Professional Development.
