B. C. Bell is a journalism major who became a Rock 'n' Roll musician who became a writer. My experiences have ranged from the traditional to counter culture. From mental health to insanity. I've lived in the country and the city. From suburbia to living on the street. From blue collar to white collar. From high tech to working with a shovel. I've worked as a sporting goods store manager, ranch hand, musician, writer, salesman, construction worker, croquet referee to senior resident at a halfway house. I was even a gardener at a Sikh Gudwhara one summer--no joke. My experiences have led from hopelessness to hope. There was a time I thought I was bulletproof, and there was a time I was near death. Slowly, the balance in all things led me back to writing and I believe it's no accident.
My influences have to include just about everything I've ever read from comics to classics. The big ones are Harlan Ellison, Jim Thompson, Dashiell Hammet, Raymond Chandler, William Gibson, Paul Auster, Joe R. Lansdale, Andrew Vachs, Harry Harrison, Lawrence Block, Fredric Brown, Peter Rabe, F. Paul Wilson, and millions of others, including a ton of pulp magazine authors from the twenties to the fifties and the Gold Medal paperback crowd. Right now I really like Victor Gischler's stuff.
I hold to no one, strict genre but lean heavily to Crime, Science Fiction, Horror, and Pulp.
