Margaret Roberts has experienced military life firsthand. Married to a retired United States Marine Corps Sergeant Major, Roberts resided most of her husband's active duty career in the California desert and developed a respect for the desert environment. Her first book of poems is evidence of her fascination with desert flowers and she compares them and their survival to the military lifestyle, particularly the life of a military wife.

Roberts is a retired government employee. She has a daughter and two grandsons.
