I've been writing science fiction for twenty years and I'm not interested in far away futuristic races inhabiting gleaming space stations. I like aliens who trip over their weapons and make mistakes. Spaceships have to be dirty and constantly breaking down. And most importantly the characters have to be real, and afraid, but most of the time having fun or there wouldn't be much point in them putting themsleves in so much danger in the first place.
