I, like many other authors, have been writing since I was a child.  First in the pre-bound blank books my father got from his office, then on my aunt's typewriter, and eventually on my own computer.

I knew by the time I was thirteen that being a novelist was my career path.  In college and graduate school I studied writing and never wavered from my goal of becoming an author.
