As the grandchild of immigrants, I have always been fascinated by the uprootedness and upheavals of contemporary culture.  As a student of history and literature, I have often been struck by the intersections between the two.  I try to bring all of these interests to bear in the narrative nonfiction books I write -- carefully researched works of history that (I hope) have the emotional heft of novels.
