Son of an Irish country GP. Brought up in Southern and Northern Ireland, student in Belfast during political upheavals of late 1960s/early 1970s. Ran a pirate radio station. Lived communally in a number of very idealistic (anarchist inspired) groups. Launched, edited & contributed to various Northern Ireland student publications.
