I was born on a farm in the Thumb area of Michigan in 1932 and grew up there as well. In 1949 I was graduated from Vassar High School and entered Michigan State University that fall. In 1953, when I was a junior, I was chosen to be an International Farm Youth Exchange delegate to Germany and for six months lived with farm families there. Upon my return home I gave slide show presentations to various groups about my overseas experiences.
