When I was a child, I grew a fascination for Bram Stoker's, Dracula. I didn't see the character as a terrible monster, but as a tortured soul, who, when everything was said and done, only wanted to be loved. So, he had a tendency to lean toward the dark side of romance. Over the years, that fascination grew to something more. Before I knew it, I was in love with any kind of paranormal romance.
