My major influences were the members of the Harlem Renaissance.  I look to their example, the way they told the stories of their generation, and I seek to do the same for mine.  Additionally, I am a hip-hop baby, fed by rap's nipple, I grew strong.  From the Last Poets and Gil Scott to Grand Master Flash and the Furious Five, my soul overflows with the wizened words of street griots.
