William Butler has five children and two grandchild. He lives with his wife Leslie in the Piney Woods area of Northeast Texas in the small town of Gilmer, placing him almost equidistant between Dallas, Texas and Shreveport, Louisiana.

Born in Washington D.C., William was raised in Los Angeles, California. He joined the Army Military Police in 1975 and served until the latter part of 1982 when he and his wife left the military and settled in Texas to raise their family.
