when people’attitudes are scarred by
ageism-racism-sexism-homophobia
and above all. . .
GREED
why focus of beautiful america when those represented to protect us from all harm and danger do the unthinkable to abuse a people who never asked to be anything except left alone? but there are those vampires who feast on blackened blood in a festival of what they say is patriotism--

for beauty is not beheld when the red badge of courage is worn by criminals; it is not when the white stripes are whipped in the backs of the defenseless, nor is it when the skin of the captured is beaten so blue that it matches their cyanotic spirits . . .
so sad the day has comewhen we discover it is beauty to defend the bashing of four-legged creatures, above the rights of two legged images of God
oh yes, we must remain beautiful,
america
so please take care
to not belittle those who chose to be
born in the wrong regime,
who practice the wrong religion. . .
or ugly up King George's english.

I respect you as a writer Cynthia..you know that..
but I take offense to this poem...america is not ugly...
and all americans are not ugly...the one thing we can
be proud of is that when abuse is found and proved we
take action against the ones who did the crime...
and rightfully so....where are the apologies from the
enemy that took our people and cut off heads and
dragged them through their streets...two wrongs do not
make a right...I also am Christian and proud of it...I also
am American and proud of it...I don't think we all need to
bow our heads in shame for what some did..whether it be
10 or a hundred...they will be punished...that you can
bet on..but in other countries..they dance in the streets
when our poeple are killed....America is still the greatest
country in the world....floria
You ask why focus on a beautiful America?
Well some see the cup half empty....
I see it half full.....
If you want to focus mostly on the bad...
that is your choice....
Mine is to stay positive and know that
things will be taken care of....as best
as they can be....

As a writer, AND as a Christian who is suppposed to call out the wrongs in society where they are seen, and express them as we all see fit as creative artists--please remember the following before posting your view--and remember we all are human:

You want to know what real greed is? It's turning your head the other way, when you know your neighbor is beating his wife and children, because you don't want to get 'involved' at the risk of being called an 'ugly and nosey neighbor'. Greed is, leaving a country oppressed by the likes of Saddam because nobody wants to get 'involved' and letting him continue to fill mass graves.
I realize that there have been a few very unfortunate problems, with a few bad apples...you pick them from the producing tree, and keep harvesting the good..you don't chop down the tree!
Tell me? If you went out and broke the law? Would you want the authorities to hold you? or your Mother responsible for what you did?
Indiana may be in Ugly America where you are, but in Texas where I am, America still remains as beautiful today as it ever was. Lisa
