I HONOR MY MOTHER AND HER SWEET MEMORY.

She was a Queen in every sense of the word.  She
raised 4 children....all of whom are doing OK in their
lives.   She was the one person on this Earth that was
in my corner NO MATTER WHAT.  She was truly a miracle
worker and great SUPER SISTAH.

When Muncie was filled with racial segregation and
racial degradation against Black people--- my mother
encouraged me and helped me to go to college and be
somebody.  When racist White folks degraded me and
told me that "colored girls could not become
authors"--- my Mother told me that I could do what I
wanted to do.   She told me I could become whatever my
dream wanted.

She had the best heart of love that I have ever
encountered in the world.   She cared about people and
was an EXCELLENT MOTHER.  She taught me many things,
from sewing.... to cooking..... to how to make
something out of nothing.

I give her the utmost honor and appreciation.   I have
often told people that I don't know how she did what
she did it--- kept a nice home,  raised 4 good
children,  as a BLACK WOMAN.... feeding us, clothing
us,  helping us,  teaching us....and then  lived a
good life and much more--- in the face of an unkind
society and racist Muncie, IN.

And now that I have cried all day yesterday--- after
breaking down and being totally devastated for most of
the day--- July 30, 2004--- upon hearing the news that
"Mama is gone"--- from my baby sister, Addie---  I
have come to grips with a pain that I have been living
with for many years."
