all day long
we could ask
why some things
won't pan out
the way we
think they should
all night long
we could just
hate the fact
we made some
silly move
when we should
have stood still
watching God
do His dance. . .
and it is
at those times
when we look
back and say,
"I wonder"
"I hope"
"I wish"
"I dread"
that break the
baton that directs
our decisions,
and we sing off key
in an effort to be
recognized for being
tone deaf to reality
standing on center stage
waiting for curtain calls
and encores after the
theatre ushers have
retired their flashlights,
leaving for home alone
and there we stand
in a mesmerizing pose
wondering,
wishing,
dreading,
and hoping that
time grants us
just one more audition
