Recipe for Political Sanity

by Cynth'ya Lewis Reed — Read all 584 poems by Cynth'ya Lewis Reed

Starting today, for the next 7 days up through this election, I have promised not to watch anything except comedy, old tv shows, the Game Show network, just feel good stuff. And books, yes, must read LOTS of poetry on this site from other writers, show my love by writing and calling people I care about; venturing into just doin' nothing more than living each day doing what I enjoy.

And then, on November 3rd, if the sky hasn't fallen and Jesus Christ has not yet returned, I'll start posting again.
blessin's,
cynth'ya

Poem Artwork
Gonna get myself a box of green tea
and drink until dawn,
listening to jazz,
read poems, maybe even
sing a song

Gonna get out my old high school yearbooks,
wonder about where time flew,
Munch on butter'd popcorn,
watch some chick flicks,
for this week in
terms of politics,
I'll act as if
I ain't got a clue

Perhaps I'll spend hours here
in The Den,
experiencing my middle age spread,
might even nuke some pizza rolls,
pick up a novel, go to sleep with it

in bed

and hallucinate about the woman who
gets her dreamboat come true
as I anxiously flip
to page 152

Then, hey, what about taking a walk
in the park,
find a path that is wooded
protecting the creatures
who lurk after dark,

and after all of that,
I'll cure myself
of being a pack rat freak,
maybe try on some old shoes,
then share them
with a recyled boutique

and take the money
I find in my walks
by the way to the 99 cent
burger joint in the hood
where old houses are always the same,

but the renters are like the times,
they keep a-changin'
,

and so I'll masticate
on a bunned-up
mustard plaster'd
three point two ounce
facimile of preservative ridden
Un Safe Distraught Anguished beef,
but never before thinking
to pray before grazin'
and wishing that cows would
form a union

. . . and on the way home,
after riding the metro
with people I don't even know,
I'll be glad to have lived
in a nation of differences,
that allows me to grow into
what I choose to do,
choose to love and
choose to go.

Well, this poem ain't got style,
but it comes from my impromtu heart,
and let's pray that next Wednesday,
America has a brand new start.

(Well, see y'all on Nov. 3, I hope the nation is still in one piece,
that those of us who may be disappointed don't mess up the freedoms we fought for all along, and that nobody
gets stupid over this
neck-and-neck race
for the oval office.)

This is right on. Unfortunately, I did get rather distraught over the election. I didn't like the way it turned out at all. However, it's time to move on and work on other things. Authors' Den unfroze my account out of the blue, so I posted a Christmas poem. I hope you had a great Thanksgiving, and will have a wonderful holiday season coming up.

You make a lot of sense here. I was a little nervous about the beef, but I'm a hereford/charolais and not an angus so I felt cautiously optimisic that you meant beefcake. Elections come and elections go but poetry like this is priceless.
Well done!

LOL. Sounds like you's preparin' for yo' last suppa and the end of the world. Eat, drink, and be merry for tomorrow we might possibly die if we don't do right.

My most recent poem, "Halloween Volvo Blues" will not make anyone go to a dictionary. ~~Nordette

Well very strange as myself and a friend were talking at lunch about how this election has been not one positive thing said by either person. I have also decided to not watch the same old same old and what shame our system has gotten to here. Even before the election lining up lawyers for the suits LOL.. is it me or has something jumped the track as I don't remember elections being like this 30 or 40 years ago.
