expanding the mind
to find the truth
for some
takes up too much
vital X-box time,
in the minds of some
questioning authority
leeches time away
from the things
that will ultimately
make no difference
in this world,
like having to
change the
game plan on Iran
because of a natural
disaster that means
America can't threaten
them with their own
form of bad-boy
destruction
expanding the mind
to find the truth
for others may mean
choosing to sail on the
not-so-deep creek
that if you rock
the boat at the
wrong angle you
still risk drowning
if your head is
held down
to make you see
their light at the
end of a tunnel
that dead ends,
which is, to them,
just punishment
how dare we question the purity
of the water of knowledge
that is pour'd down our throats
with electronic edited
presidential approv'd
buckets
but maybe those like
"you" and sometimes "i"
who feel entitled to just
glide by on the
intellect of others
actually poisoning our
mind-bodies with the
latest blurb, becoming
guilty of neglect the
inherent beauty
of the first law
of Liberty? . . .
and if you and i
truly want to
expanding our mind
to find the truth,
be sure to take
along a few supplies
like scissors of
credibility to cut
the strings that
are sometimes attach'd
a flashlight of
justification to
shine thru the gray areas
and a Mr. Microphone
to make certain your freedom
to speak to preach to
screech wisdom like
an owl in the night
of confusion is heard
loud and clear
for as long as we put
on gloves made from
fabric of the public's
right to know
then we will be protected
from the talons
of political birds of prey
who feed on our
right to speak like we want,
breathe like we want,
sex like we want,
question the nutritional
value of the eat GMA/FDA-poison'd produce. . .
like they want
how dare the powers
that think-they-be
ignore the singular voice
of those who sugar-coat
allegiance to some
unlegislated legalistic
liberty
who attempt to define
our freedom to be
and create
and to interpret
because of some document
written by a bunch of white
men who felt they owned
all women, because of
parchment that bears
the name of rapists
whose pictures we carry
around with pride in our
pockets of our bluejeans
purchased from Walmart
drillionaires
those of us who
know that twisting
propaganda like a
high fructose corn syrup
twizzler has nothing
to do with expanding the mind
to find the truth
having some news anchor
on FOX who is nothing more
than a pussy willow trying
to roar like a lion on the hunt
have anything to do with
expanding the mind to
meet the approval of those
who understand
the secret of the
cut and paste gospel
of St. Ropers and St. Gallup
for when it comes
to messin' 'round
with the freedom of
SPEAK, God gave us all
the ultimate choice
of which no man, no
woman, no party can
claim dominion. . .
so if what verbal sparks
from the depths of my heart
smack imprints of truth
as MS. HISTORY instructs me
to give to you
her point of view,
and the words inject themselves
into the psyche of those
who put in a choke hold of
"accept this point of view
be risk being label'd UN-American"
who are still
to this very day
lied to all along,
then maybe "U"
. . . and sometimes "i"
may well have served
the dreams of our foreparents
well, because they were
silenced like pure lambs
who were killed for
just having the right to
read, to share, to tell
their never-ending
story. . .
and as long as you
and i decide to keep
Ms. History's prophecy
alive means that
her orphans are served
intellectually well,
not just for today,
but everyday
HER stories will remain
alive and well

Freedom of What?
Countries who are hoarding Nuclear weapons are the ones who cry loud when another country so much as uses nuclear energy to generate power or some other non destructive purposes. Sanctions will be imposed and developing countries will be held captive.
A great write, Cynthea.
Love from India - Joel -
You have verbalized the truth of a million years in this piece. It's a work of art brilliantly speaking to every mind of our time. With words you reached way down into your spirit and emerged with something profound and "deep" as can be. Our people need deep, because we're living in shallow waters with shallow people in shallow times. Thanks girl. This word is bond.

Nice to see you posting again; I've missed you!
This is a hard hitting, yet powerfully expressed, vitally needed poem--may we continue to be free to make choices--thank you...
(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
