"Git up niggagal!" they scowl'd,
"or else'n you lookin' to get beat;
now cause'n a YOU, we gotta go
and re-deodorize this seat!"

. . .and yet she did not move. . .

"You def or somethin' you silly black bitch?"
Get your nigga-ass up
or we'll beat you with a switch"

. . . And She Did Not Move.

"Gal's got to be crazy, ignant or such,
Just a sittin' in this seat only
proves them darkies don't know much!"

. . . AND SHE DID NOT MOVE--

for by sitting, she stood and mov'd the world;
by sitting, she called the right things wrong;
by sitting, she open'd up the wound;
by sitting, we saw the true nature of legislated lies,

and by believing in her God, she refus'd to raise a fist for she was a peacemaker;

she refus'd to sentence soldiers to death for she was a healer;

she refus'd to cheat the poor for she gave her witness,
and now she leaves it at the feet of us who once again,
must STAND.

Wow, my heart beat so fast as I was reading this! I have got goose bumps all over! Powerful, beautiful tribute to Rosa Parks - as well as the Nyerere's, Mandela's, Nkurumah's and Gandhi's of this world! For they refused to call the right things wrong, they refused to cheat the poor! Poignant write, Cynth'ya! Powerful!!!

Rosa Parks inspired me as a young woman of color growing up in a racially oppressive society.This is a beautiful way of expressing what Black people had to live under...and how Rosa showed us all that RIGHT is more powerful than White or Might.

Cynth'ya,

Thank you for penning the way it was, the hatred whites had for black folk. I am white, and am ashamed my relatives treated people of color this way. Forgive me, if I have any bad thoughts towards African Americans (or any other race). Stunning, bold, in your face, NEEDED tribute to a woman of great courage. I hope we've moved forward from this...in some ways, we have, in some ways, there is still racial discrimination. BRAVA! I applaud you for penning this one. Into my library it goes.

May Rosa BE the busdriver in the Big Sky. May she offer a seat to all races and may Martin Luther watch over her soul, the King that he is, and help her to set things right. Thanks so much for this, Cynth'ya. I give 92 thanks to you, one for each of Rosa's living years. She lived well beyond the face of discrimination. When an old woman dies, a whole library disappears if it is not kindly passed on. Pass on Rosa to your daughters, sons, granddaughters, and grandsons. Forever may her famous ordeal and spirit live on!
