Poem Artwork

what are they thinking?

these dime-a-dozen,
rag mag sensationalists who

wear size 1 tube tops
and tight little hip hugger
gap jeans with thong hankies

that equate to being

smaller than a dish towel

in the kitchen of a

native lilliputian; those

cutzie wootzies

who jiggle silicone additives
for the professional purpose of

posing as arm candy
with an equally non-descript

metrosexual of a man whose
only purpose in life is
the over-use of overpriced
follicular thickening
mousse purchased at
chez chez la outlet mall

on his contract-pending budget
from a desperate
part-time sales clerk with
no health insurance on rodeo drive

(when they look into the
cue cards and tele-tubby prompters
what do they think inquiring minds
are made of?)

do they really think
some of us are of the opinion that
their prime time
news that is as precious
2 me as a dried up piece of

snot from the nose of
donald trump’s frustrat'd
one-hit-wonder apprentice?

and even though i may never tell
oprah let me tell you what it is
i truly care about;

i care about praying the right
kind of prayer that is so
fervent that the white light
fills the tired soul

i care about those who

just lost an infant that
never had a chance to live
because of an ill-fated decision;

to know that they still have
hope and the god don’t make

no junk. i care about people
making news for the sake of
the betterment of the world,
not about ratings pieced
2gether for sake of getting
a thrill that is forgotten like
a one night stand that
never should have happen’d.

. . . so keep a lid on tacky yarns like. . .

“bizarre kissing risk exposed,

or baby names you should nevah evah evah use,

or uh oh scary news for hot dog lovers,

or video of seeing a 2 legged dog walk like a person”

that kind of pop-that-thang

bang bang bang trash

ain’t doin’ nothin’ to nourish
the souls that walk in

a flesh that begs for

intellectual food fa-thought

leftovers of common sense.

write about the news that will
cause this world to stop
spinning backwards,

news that offers a

homeless family shelter
a jobless family income
an hiv victim a life sentence,

. . .
and when you find that

bit of truth, be sure you

get it right the first time

‘cause payback on a lie

to tease the feeding frenzy
of ignorant newsmakers
is a fate worse than brain-death
of a born-free nation

Cynth'ya,

This should be on the front page in bold face type--THIS is real news we can use! :) BRAVA, Sister, keep preaching--you're reaching millions of inquiring minds. :)

(((HUGS))), love and Merry Christmas, Karla.

I couldn't agree more, Cynth'ya, and you sure know how to rant. This is a good one!

But since I believe that we should all truly have far more compassion for all of our less fortunate earthly neighbors, both human and nonhuman, my only quibble would be the two legged dog video. I happen to like that one - and I'm glad someone also had compassion for this crippled pooch, and adopted him!

Happy Holidays, and Rant On!
