Just random sleepless thoughts

Poem Artwork

often i've wonder'd if there is
something that says it is a crime
to be human; and perhaps
the evidence lies behind
the emotive reasoning
of feelings that hide in the cusp
of the heart of all hearts
that absence of passion
does not make ones heart
more resilient

what is the mode-o-faire
when there is nothing fond at all
about the immeasurable distance
between us; for you and i know all too well
that neither of us can re-capture the aura of
space nor time; nor can we corral
the beats of youthful passion that
were once the ruling factions
of all that made us more than one;

what ever happen'd to the time
when you kiss'd my hand; those
moments when the tap of the tip of your tongue
playfully connect'd the dots and
strumm'd the strings of my heartline
that led to a signal that went straight down
to my switching station;
were you the conductor,
and i, Union Pacific awaiting
the drive of your golden spike?

and now here we are,
waiting in the dark
still searching for the boarding schedule that
once was one time but now
always seems to be a heartbeat-too-late. . .

so with burden'd bags pack'd full of
obligatory kindness, we stand on
the loading dock of day-to-day beginnings
and perhaps our eyes flash silently
of picturesque window scenes
that i am sure we will never forget. . .
but now, the wheels of love screech
on the run down rails of good intentions
at the ticket booth of One Last Chance
forever waiting for the Love Express
to roll up to the end of the line,

but after so many runs
there is really no further need
to anxiously yank on the midnight cord
because it looks as if we are
the only passengers left trying
to go nowhere gracefully
while others disembark'd,
seems that they other knew
there was nothing to gain
by attempting to blow old whistles
rusting shut in the dampness of the night

Great gathering of intelligent and also whitty crafted observations- indeed it looks days of passion are always numbered, and what remains is
an element of trust and friendship - sometimes! Very enjoyable read.

A stunning write, heartfelt and very real. But, often those drab, almost hopeless days just leave and all is back to 'normal'.

Cynth'ya, you really tugged my heart strings with this fabulous poem, I sometimes wonder if I would have been one of those passengers going nowhere, wondering why it changed, if my husband had not died so young. Soulful writing sis...

A living heart pulses and throbs through every syllable of these "random sleepless thoughts" and a soul overflowing with the grace and wisdom of heaven fill them not only with true validity but true love. This authentic art, life, and everything in between.

cynth'ya, it's so difficult to know which way is up when a relationship doesn't feel like what it used to be. is there something of value left or is it time to go separate ways? sherry put it so well...it's not as easy as stay or move on because there is so much more at work that brings people together. and though it seems that something is gone or missing it really does have more to do with the changing seasons of us...i truly believe that love never dies it just shifts. you've stirred a hard reality to the surface. ~a

Relationships change but that doesn't mean that we cannot embrace what they have become, instead of trying to rekindle something that once was. Marriage, or even a partnership for that matter, has a certain business side to it and a certain affectionate side also. Perhaps we were living in hope early on, hope that what we felt would carry us through the long run. Perhaps the time has come to redefine the relationship; admit the changes and discuss how to live within the new peramaters without trashing all that is shared and all that is good. Love and passion are gifts that we give to ourself. The fact that someone else once helped us to experience those things and now does not has a whole lot more to do with ourself than it does with the other person. Perhaps along the road, our image of that other person proved to be trumped up and incorrect...again, our problem not theirs, we were not seeing with clear vision, perhaps fogged by hope or even the illusion of love. Especially where love is concerned, we tend to see what we want to see and later have to live with the reality of the human frailities, disappointments or agressions. We dream the marriage dream a thousand times before we take our vows and like anything else in life, our "perfect world" ideals eventually fail us. All of this aside, marriage remains a partnership and finding a new common ground would probably take a lot of the assumed expectations out of the relationship and leave the things that are still admired and the things that make us feel good about that person without the self-imposed requirements that have become so uncomfortable. The redefining is a lot like loosening our belt after a huge meal, we make room for the good things that will follow by releasing the pressures and assumptions rooted in the past. Your thoughts are excellent, Cynth'ya and (obviously) have gotten my own thoughts rolling here too. Superb writing and to be honest, probably worth being sleepless over.

Take care,

Sherry
