busting achin' backbones
tryin' so to make a livin';
difficult to catch a break
and my boss? no pity's givin'
needing time away
just to get a little rest
all these jobs is good for
is tension grief and stress;
everything that gave us hope
is ship'd off overseas
and the ones who run the nation
brought the good folks to their knees;
in a time and place where people
just don't give a rip no more,
there's no reason to consider
anything but bein' poor;
i hope somebody cares out there
to lend me some direction,
because the way the world is now
we don't have much protection
who thought my kids would see me
in my old age begging bread,
it's just not right
too tired to fight;
alive but good as dead.

There are many singin' the workin' class blues. We have to take whatever job we can, just to survive, while being nickled and dimed to death. I hear you--paycheck? What paycheck? I paid rent, left with three whole dollars to live on for a week. Next week, electric will take all but five dollars or so. (Hey, I'm rich!) Sad state of affairs. Meanwhile, the fat cats stuff their wallets with record profits (gas companies, utility companies, etc, etc, ad nauseum). Damn shame.
