cruise control

by Cynth'ya Lewis Reed — Read all 584 poems by Cynth'ya Lewis Reed

Of the 16 paternal aunts and uncles, only 5 remain (Uncles Fennie and Wilson, and Aunts Juanita, Velma and Roberta.)

Of my grandparents, only one remains (my dear Grandmother Ruby). These elders who have shown more strength in all that life unfairly has dealt them because of the time they were born in America. It did not recognize their worth. But God knew their brilliance in body, mind and spirit. Each of us must endure that special time that causes us to feel the joy and the pain at a lov'd one's departure. It may come suddenly, or may linger to the point of where we feel we cannot bear up under the strain.

This poem is one that I have written not just for myself, but for others with family loves on the horizon of crossing over. Just know that if they were close to the heart of God, they have nothing more to suffer in this aging, mortal life. You can do ALL things thru Christ who strengthens you.

Poem Artwork

her Royal Majesty of Sorrows stands by,

waiting for Our Jewels to board
cherubs greet them with roses & stardust
while the angel band is harping
”Just a little talk with Jesus makes it right”

the coast guard of the righteous
prepare to hoist up one more precious anchor
from the Port of Generations.
and the spirit in her bosom soon bids  bon voyage! .  .  .
but don’t even think that letting go
is easy come or easy go. . .

i wish to stow away. . . but this is not my time
the Admiral of Faith knows my non-refundable itinerary
groanings of her spirit are the evidence
that she is being call’d, and soon shall depart

so don’t you think that letting go is
is easier said than done. . .

see the history in her eyes?
it just keeps growing dimmer
as the windows of transition
raise to raise her spirit free
of course she wants to let go. . .
’cause Jesus says come on home,

promising to make her journey easy.

now as i sit at the crumbling seawall
near the edge of my loved one’s time
i feel my faith is swaying to the breaking point,
and the lighthouse of my comfort zone
dims daily in the hope of an easy grief. . .
we all know there is no such thing as
grief coming easy. . . .

so while her inner light
is on that search for the golden dock
at the opposite side of a fantastic shore excursion

the sea legs of my logic tense up,
for I know that even though my heart
is surround’d in a mist of hollow healing,
we all, like birth, must sail death’s sea alone

but we will have a guiding light of
secret hidden codes from happy pasts,

like holding her hands,
hearing her say:
“oh your hands are so warm”

. . . and smiling ever so sincerely

after all isn’t life a mere chronicle
and are not memories of our lov’d ones
reminiscent of the hands
that shield us from the shiver
of the faithlessness we feel believing
we cannot cruise eternity alone?

P.S. Although my own thoughts on the meaning of life begin and end with how I relate to the one the world refers to as the Son of the Great I AM (YESHUA YAWEH-i.e. Jesus Christ) I found these interesting as to how they relate to a number of humanly-created belief structures.

Have a little talk with Jesus makes it right. Now let us have a little talk with Jesus and tell him all about our problems then he will hear our cry and he will answer by and by now dont you feel the little prayer wheel turning and then you know a little fires burning so have a little talk with Jesus makes it right.

Once we are born, we are in the cruise (or lifeboat) by ourselves. How we steer the ship or row the boat is how we proceed in life. Some choose to go toward the darkness, some choose to steer toward the lights. When chooses to steer toward the light, by the time the ship or the boat reaches its destination, one will meet with happiness.

Wonderful write, Cynth'ya!

Cynth'ya,

We're all passengers on the cruise ship of life; we embark at birth, traverse the (sometimes stormy) seas of living, and disembark at death. A deeply poignant, introspective write...with the Lord at the helm, we've nothing to fear. Well done! Saving this one.

(((((HUGS)))))), love and continued prayers, Karla.

Goog writing, Cynth'ya, but this left me a bit disappointed..I thought it was about an actual CRUISE; but still, it was a great write, as all of them are! You are one awesome poetess, and one of my favorites here at the Den! *grins* Very well done; brava!

(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Tx., Karen Lynn. :D
