(I named this poem 'LadyO' because of my childhood admiration for a lady the world knew as 'Jackie-O' in the changing 1960s.)

The following are words of a business woman in Indianapolis about the cover-photo of Newsweek:

'I am VERY proud to see this beautiful, intelligent, African American woman on the cover of this internationally renowned magazine. Make your voice and dollar count by making the newsstand sales of this issue surpass, not only their projected sales but make history.! We have to continue to tell the media that WE DO PURCHASE and READ magazines featuring People of Color on their covers and this is a POSITIVE thing to do, not only for the political correctness of it, but because we are AMERICANS of influence, power, and our presence Moves the proverbial needle and sells product (and not just CDs, Movies, Liquor, and Clothes).

Every day we are bombarded with images of African American women NAKED and DEGRADED. As Americans, we have sent images around the world that shows Black Women as objects and mindless subjects for mens pleasure. So its a GREAT balance of TRUTH to have Mrs. Obama standing Strong, powerful, and WITH A SMILE on the COVER of NEWSWEEK. Support this issue with your DOLLARS and let this media company know GOOD JOB!!!!!

For those who want to make a fear-factor stink of the middle eastern name "Hussein" the blog "Name Game--Who's Sane" is for those who believe in fear rhetoric promoted by one particular Iowa representative who does not wear the dignity of his name (King):

The name Hussein is a baby boy name. The name Hussein comes from the Arabic origin. The Bible comes from Arabic people. In Arabic the meaning of the name Hussein is: One who is handsome.

Kenneth, my husband's name, is Celtic. Kenneth means "Handsome." My husband is not white, nor European. Does that mean I should divorce him because his name doesn't match his background? Or should he change his name to 'Leroy' or 'Willie' or 'Tyrone' and give him a basketball and a pool cue?

Just ask Little Obama Girl--she doesn't care about a name--what's important is she grows up in a nation that can give her a chance at a positive future.

The eyes of this author of "Lady-O" are observing the grace of woman.

I hope that the one to be the First Lady stands to be The Lady of EQUALITY TO AMERICA ~ USA, and most of all that she demands obedience and obeys The Constitution of The United States of America.

Cynth'ya,

At first glance, I thought the picture was of Oprah! LOL A second glance corrected my error. Sorry 'bout that!

It is nice to see a woman of color on the cover of Newsweek, a positive message being that women can and do achieve great things. And thank you for the lesson on names/tolerance; who know what will happen if her husband gets in the White House? No one does until it happens; no jumping to conclusions and condemning before it happens (think: counting chickens before they hatch). Excellent, thought provoking message in this one.

Oh - and Oprah was named for a woman in the Bible - 'course, it was originally supposed to be Orpah, if I remember right, but someone mis-spelled it. There's another strong woman who's done great things for humanity. :)
