Think...just what IS a stick?

a verb. . .a noun...?

an ornate staff in the hands
of an ancient Holy Savior or
perhaps some 21st century clown?

is it a thing to intimidate
those who know no better,

is it cover'd with a piece of cloth
to fend off rainy weather?

do you stop and help an elder
with a stick to help them stand,

or recall when you played marbles
tracing spheres in dirt or sand

did your Mama make you break one off
to chasten with a switch....

do you wish she would have listen'd
as oppos'd to whuppin' fits?

did you pick up sticks
like Lincoln logs
or pixies, maybe matches...

did you use a stick to win a fight
 that left red scrapes and scratches?

what about those scouting outings
as you ate too many s'mores,
or  those playtime bows and arrows
that you'd better leave outdoors?

when you think of things that stick around
just take this thought to task

a stick or stone make break one's bone
but speaking truth forever lasts.
