hallow-greens

by Cynth'ya Lewis Reed — Read all 584 poems by Cynth'ya Lewis Reed

Hey, every try rolling candy corn in corn meal? (Not pretty!) But even beside two of my favorite green things (YTB golf and my November '08 Success Magazine) don't those fried green tomatoes look nice and toasty after being tortured in boiling oil?

Poem Artwork

all of us are young at heart
and some of us are lean,
but scary are those "Choc-ulas"
that make our fat cells scream

so think of the alternatives
to things that make us fatter,
instead of sugar laden treats
fry veggies soak'd in batter
.

"Grun-cynth'ya's Fried Green tomatoes"
Simple "spell" of a recipe.

Take what's left from your dead garden;

Snap off the limbs from rotting tomato plants;

Capture the unsuspecting green orbs before they turn blood-red,
ignoring the ones that squish goo from their ghastly gashes and
nibbles from worms that scurrying under light of
full moon;

Scald the baby emerald fruits skin until it glistens eerie clean;

Them rip off the cradle tops removing all remembrance of
"the mother vine."

Heat up the cast iron cauldron filled deep with oil of soybean;
(i.e. the deep fryer you got on sale at the Good Will Store)

Drop the little greenies mercilessly, watching and listen to
them pop and bounce around without hope.  .

Watch them transform with a sprinkling of salt into
crispy toasty brown morsels of monstrous delight!

Scoop them out after they bear no resemblance to their
original form, lay on a sheet paper pounded flat from
recycled twice dead trees....

Get out the bottle of hot sauce...repent for high calorie sins, then pray and eat like an ogre! LOL

A tasty idea/treat I'm sure Cynth'ya; although I am not a cook. Love and blessings,
