BORROWED TIME
I’m living on borrowed time,
it doesn’t belong to me,
so I’m trying to make the best of it
by being as happy as I can be.
I’m already 3 years older
then Mom & Pop, when they died.
Now, after many years alone
I have a special lady by my side.
She tries to keep me involved
in the surroundings of our world
and occasionally, on the dance floor,
she’ll convince me to give it a whirl.
Sometimes we go out to dinner
usually just the two of us,
often on the spur of the moment,
we don’t often make a big fuss.
We’ve enjoyed a number of cruises,
several plays and a concert or two
and she’s constantly on the look out
for interesting things that we can do.
Each summer we drive to our homeland
to visit with family and friends,
but secretly I always look forward
to that journey coming to an end.
I don’t mean that like it sounds,
it’s really an enjoyable visit
even with all that time on the road
there’s just no way I’d ever miss it.
But home is where my heart is,
where I most enjoy my time.
We’ve worked to make it comfy,
and we find it to be sublime.
For me an evening of TV
suits me perfectly fine.
The two of us conversing
after dinner and a glass of wine.
Sometimes we’ll sit on the patio
while we’re watering the plants
and I wonder where life would’ve taken me
if we hadn’t met, by chance.
At the age my father passed,
I met the girl I want for mine.
She’s turned my life around
and I’m thriving on borrowed time.
