Heart of a Teacher

by Jill Eisnaugle — Read all 611 poems by Jill Eisnaugle

A poem inspired by and written for my sixth grade teacher, Mrs. Sharon Needham, in honor of her upcoming birthday.

Poem Artwork

When the Lord looked down from Heaven
Upon a world filled with despair
He summoned forth His special angels
And sent them earthbound on a prayer
That their strength could bear each burden
While enriching youthful minds
In the form of loving teachers –
Treasures known to all mankind.

These special angels shone of glory
And through the darkness found a way
Into the hearts and souls of children
Where their light would always stay
Instilled within each wayward memory
Through the years still yet to be
Leaving but a cherished legacy
To last throughout eternity.

English, Science, Math or Reading
These blessed angels proud and tall
Brought great hope to those in needing
Of some guidance through it all
Proving that this world of wonder
Sometimes laden with despair
Can be a place like no other
With a teacher’s love and care.
