The Astros rose from darker days
That had kept them off guard
Through offense and sound double plays
To win the Wild Card
They speared the Braves to win a place
In the NLCS
St. Louis stared them in the face
But, the 'Stros found much success.

While on the road, the ‘Stros were strong
And took one game of two
They returned home, where they belonged
For three games to ensue
The Rocket lit the daytime sky
With pitches hard to beat
Before Brad Lidge came in to fly
The Cardinals to defeat.

Game 4 of the NLCS
Was a battle of will
As Backe and Wheeler progressed
Through batters from the hill
But, in the end, the ‘Stros would prove
To be the better team
As Ensberg once more found his groove
And gave the Astros steam.

Game 5, held at Minute Maid Park
Placed Pettitte on the mound
As once again, the team embarked
Upon the grassy ground
Hoping that by the end of night
A Series berth would be
More than a dream, far from their sight
But their true destiny. 

The Astros fought and battled hard
Just as they had all year
But come the 9^th, on their home yard
The scene was one of tears
The Series seemed a breath away
When Pujols hit for three
Postponing 'til another day
An Astros victory.

So, in St. Louis, once again
The Astros could be found
Searching for that elusive win
To place them Series bound
The ‘Stros showed their impressive might
To all the fans at Busch
And in the end, this was the night
To clinch their Series push. 
 

The ‘Stros had showed their winning style
Throughout the playoff run
Their mission proved to be worthwhile
When all was said and done
For Houston had last claimed their stake
Toward greatness, come what may
As finally, they could partake
In sweet World Series play.
