Workday Blues

by Jill Eisnaugle — Read all 611 poems by Jill Eisnaugle

A poem inspired by a friend's hectic workload.

Poem Artwork

Stack of paper, cup of pens
Leisure caper, workday sin,
Stress and bedlam, never done
Mess and mayhem, stealing fun.

Telephones ring, nine to five
Doughnuts bring means to survive,
Brunch that comes, an hour late
Soon succumbs to staff debate.

Computer reeks of slow downloads
Bosses speak in Gospel mode,
Hurry up, but do it right
Ditch the coffee cup, till night.

Watch the clock, each breath you take
At 5, you flock, to meditate,
Until the day, begins anew
When you’ll replay, the workday blues.

Sounds about right, Jill!! The boredom is difficult, but surprises are usually worse. I would say that I loved the humor in this piece if it wasn't so much like my real life. LOL
Take care,
Sherry

Jill,

You and I on the same page today. Yours is frenetically paced, rhymed and metered to perfection. Enjoyed this one, would love to stay and chat, but on my way to work (not really). :) Seriously, I loved this one, and so will your friend.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

"Bosses speak in Gospel mode" <----take it to mean, they're God? :)
