Pathway Through the Forest

by Jill Eisnaugle — Read all 611 poems by Jill Eisnaugle

A poem about a single writer's metaphoric search for true love.

Poem Artwork

On a pathway through the forest
Giant redwoods all around
The birds sing well in chorus
Yet, I hear but not a sound
Echoed silence tends to linger
As I slowly lose my sight
Staring at an empty finger
When each day turns into night.

Down the pathway, I continue
Searching for an opening
That will lead me to a venue
Filled with warm and tender things
Clouded deep within the forage
There is no glow to be found
For a heart that lives in storage
Longing for a love, profound.

On a pathway through the forest
Bordered by nothing but trees
The birds sing well in chorus
For each soul around, but me
As I search for just one clearing
In the form of lasting light
I unearth my spirit fearing
I’ll be left alone to write.

I have tried to accept the eventuality of this very fate, Jill. Hope is there that someday I might be so blessed. Perhaps it takes more faith than the years have given me. Or maybe I haven't sent out enough love to have it returned. Can so relate to this beautiful write...

This poem is so beautiful, the message, the meter, the emotion.......
its a gentle plea to the universe to send, what is desired and yearned........and I am sure........these words,or the spirit of these words will reach the right heart :)
