If the Lord would look upon me
Granting me the strength to find
A light for all eternity
To embrace my heart and mind
I would first search for the beauty
In someone I could depend
Who believed their sense of duty
Was foremost to be a friend.
Then, I would look for the power
In the person’s goals and dreams
Certain that at any hour
Howe’er great a challenge seems
This person could lift me higher
Than I ever thought I’d fly
Since no circumstance is dire
When a friend is standing by.
If I would arise tomorrow
And the Lord would shine His Will
Yielding me the chance to borrow
What an angel would instill
I would not ask for an ocean
Or the wealth that some accrue
Just the fondness and devotion
Of the friend I’ve found in you.
