One afternoon, I traveled
Down a long, forgotten road
Densely paved and lightly graveled
Was the path on which I strode
Her shoulders were dark and dour
Her demeanor, wry and cold
Yet, her soul beheld much power
And a sight to long behold.
As I journeyed down that freeway
My emotions flowed and poured
For I saw no room for leeway
From the prison she endured
Then, I looked far in the distance
Spying just a glimpse or two
Of that highway’s co-existence
With a blessing from the blue.
In near view, as still I wandered
Nestled deep among the trees
Was a sight, I stopped and pondered
For an hour, midst the breeze
The road behind me seemed deserted
Yet, ahead, a light emerged
As if I had been alerted
To the place where life diverged.
Yes, the roadway was my fortress
Long before the beam of hope
Shined its willful plan for success
On my shoulder’s plodding slope
Ne’er again shall I be stolid
For my surface shall be paved
By the light, so smooth and solid
That the Lord so kindly gave.
