She saw the world, one winter’s eve
Through frosty panes of glass
And found it quite hard to believe
How quickly life had passed
A week ago, or so it seemed
She wore ribbons and lace
But now, the icy shadows gleamed
In lines upon her face.
She watched the children, as they went
For sleigh rides down the hill
And thought of every day she spent
In search of that same thrill
But, sleds and boots had long been stored
With memories abound
Where they would be ever adored
When coldness rolled around.
She witnessed every snowflake fall
Each one, diversely odd
And yet, her mind could not recall
A more beautiful façade
Than what she viewed, in retrospect
Upon a distant age
With which she chose to reconnect
Amid a snowstorm’s rage.
She saw the world, one winter’s eve
Through long, lost yesterdays
And found it quite hard to believe
Her life turned out that way
She stopped and smiled, then said a prayer
For snowy days to last –
The time when her memories were there
In frosty panes of glass.
