Our Grandparent’s Smile

A poem to honor grandparents

Friday, May 26, 2006

Poem Artwork

In the first moment of our lives
A seed of love is sown
To bless our hearts, once it arrives
So, we won’t feel alone
A joy, so precious and so rare
To linger, all the while
Is what we find, awaiting there
In our grandparent’s smile.

During childhood, the seedling grows
Into a special bond
Whose beauty, like a scented rose
Remains forever fond
To resonate within the heart
And navigate each mile
That leaves our lives ever apart
From our grandparent’s smile.

As time goes on, our lives will sprout
Just like a tree in spring
But, in moments of joy and doubt
Through what this world shall bring
A joy so precious and so rare
Will linger, all the while
And guide us by the loving care
Of our grandparent’s smile.

I was so fortunate to have four grandparents and two great grand parents to help my parents nurture me. They always greeted my twin broter and I with a smile and introduced us to things our parents didn't have time for. Wonderful memories.

Thanks, Jill
Ron

Your poem honoring grandparents gives me picture of a Norman Rockwell painting. Your gentle words are beautiful.
