I was but one minute away
From a warm brownie sundae
Until the first light of the day
Proved dreams die on a Monday
I woke and tripped on cat toys spread
Across the bedroom floor
A test to try my weary head
Before I reached the door.
I strolled downstairs, lost in a trance
My eyes began to close
I missed a step by circumstance
And fell flat on my nose
Wiping the blood, I slipped once more
And felt my ankle twist
A wondrous day, appeared in store
As I clinched my left fist.
A power outage around two
Had ceased my coffee break
I left the house, without a clue
That feat was a mistake
Ten miles from home, I was appalled
My gas gauge sat on ‘E’
As road reports showed one car stalled
And, yes, that car was me!
Three hours late, I got to work
As lunch breaks rolled around
Still certain I could beat the quirk
That left me feeling drowned
“I need to send this fax,” I said
“And all will be just fine”
But, sure enough, the fax was dead
Its track was misaligned.
I suffered through the afternoon
Until the clock struck five
Arriving home to cat toys strewn
Thankful to be alive
I cleaned the messes of the dawn
That came to curse my Monday
Then, placed a chair upon my lawn
And ate a brownie sundae!
