Twenty-Six Years

by Jill Eisnaugle — Read all 611 poems by Jill Eisnaugle

Each year to commemorate my upcoming November 12th birthday, I write a poem in reflection of my time here on earth. Here is this year's poem, written for my 26th birthday.

Poem Artwork

Another year has reached the sea
Another page has turned
Yet, all that I hold dear to me
Are things that I have earned
I never asked for fancy art
Or diamonds for my hand
To me, the gift within my heart
Is more than I had planned.

Some say that twenty-six is old
And mourn each setting sun
But, my future seems clear and bold –
My life only begun
I see no sense in tempting fate
Or fretting to the sky
I’ll live my life, ‘til it’s too late
And never question why.

My life has been quite blessed, indeed
I have so few regrets
My heart lives for the souls in need
My mind seldom forgets
And so, I’ll face the coming year
In glory and in worth
With all the things I hold so dear –
My blessings, here on earth.

29 Jill? I pray to God you will still feel young when you are 99 and I hope you make it.

Karen, what are you complaining about I am 61 and I feel older than a 100. The only thing is this: I have had a heart attack. I could have easily not made it past 40. Yes, Virginia... There is a God.
God Bless you both,
Lew

Only 29, Jill? You're just a child! Wait until you reach MY age, honey! (I'm forty seven, but feel a 100 at times with my arthritis! LOL)

Very well penned; brava! Happy birthday early, and hope it is a blast! You deserve fun on your special day!

(((HUGS))) and much love from Burleson, your friend, Karen Lynn. :D
