From Sun to Storms

A poem about how quickly the weather can change from beautiful to hazardous.

Poem Artwork

As I awakened for the day
The sky was crisp and blue
Soon, sunlit warmth had made its way
Over the morning dew
The portrait that was in my mind
Of how each hour would fly
So, suddenly, was left behind
When somber clouds rolled by.

I ambled my way ‘cross the lawn
And heard a mighty roar
The atmosphere I’d known at dawn
Was certainly no more
The winds began to whip and jolt
The sky turned dark as night
And soon, a twisted lightning bolt
Became the only light.

I hurried back into the house
As quickly as I could
And sat, as quiet as a mouse
For my own sense of good
One lightning flash, the power failed
I was scared and alone
Then, the sky opened up and hailed
A tennis ball-sized stone.

The rainstorm seemed to last for hours
As water pooled and flowed
Between the hail and rain-soaked showers
The madness seldom slowed
But then, the storm became quite still
The rains ceased to exist
The violent wind, once sharp and shrill
Had no means to subsist.

Two hours since the storm moved east
The sky is crisp and blue
The only remnant that the beast
Had ever traveled through
Is one fragment of ice debris
In the shape of a sphere
Left here on earth to remind me
How quickly storms appear.

This is a "GREAT" poem Jill!
I love the way you wrote it, with style and flair, of Mother Natures demise!

Yup, that's Texas weather to a T! No wonder I don't like Texas: the weather sucks--not cold enough in the winter, too stormy in the spring, and too HOT in the summer! The only good season is fall! Excellent write, though; well done, Jill! BRAVA!

(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Burleson, Karen Lynn. :D
