Newborn Angel

by Jill Eisnaugle — Read all 611 poems by Jill Eisnaugle

A poem for the smallest of all human miracles, premature babies. These angels sent to earth often face long struggles and harsh challenges. These burdens often lead to lengthy hospitalizations and time separated from their homes.

As a former preemie, myself, I dedicate this poem to the babies still fighting the good fight and to their families who left to face the ups and downs, one day at a time. Keep the faith!

Newborn angel, please find rest
You have passed another test
Days are long and sometimes cold
Yet, your spirit remains bold
You are blessed with headstrong might–
This shall guide you through your fight
But, for now, please stop and sigh
One more day has become nigh.

Newborn angel, please find peace
Let your uphill battles cease
Drift across the skies of blue
If for just one hour or two
Dance with butterflies and bees
Should this put your mind at ease
Your brave heart, though very small
Is the toughest of them all.

Newborn angel, please have hope
You have found a way to cope
Though, your time has just begun
Your soul shines, just like the sun
While more grief could come your way
You have won the bout, today
So, slumber where your dreams shall roam
Until the day you can come home.

Jill, this touched me today, so many babies born today have to struggle to win the battle of life. You've portrayed this preemie born perfect! The babies are heroes and life has just begun for them. Thanks for sharing!

O, Jill, as a premie, I felt this deep in my soul! A beautiful tribute to the tiniest heroes! Very well done, my (((friend)))! God bless you!

(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Burleson, Karen Lynn. :D

How much did you weigh at birth? Karla weighed 2 pounds; me, one and a half pounds. We were tiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiny!

What a charming and inspiring prose. Nine years ago my niece was born premature, and I dedicated a poem "Our Family's Greatest Hero." We all prayed and loved and she's a wonderful, healthy child today. Thank you for sharing. My best, Gloria

Jill,

As a preemie myself, I felt this shiverlinger deep in the soul: every day that I have been granted is a gift. It's only by the Grace of God that I am here; nearly 48 years now. Wasn't expected to live much past birth...thank you for this miraculous, beautifully moving tribute to courage in tiny bodies! Well done!

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
