If Not a Poet

A poem for poets and a personal reflection upon my own life.

Poem Artwork

If I lived not as a poet
I’m not sure what I would be
Maybe I would be a pilot
For a flight over the sea
I might be an English teacher
Since I have a way with words
Then again, my life could feature
A career that deals with birds.

If I lived not as a poet
Maybe I would come to find
That my skill is decorating
Or installing mini-blinds
I could ride a magic carpet
And then, place it on the floor
But, I know that life would quickly
Serve to become quite a bore.

If I lived not as a poet
I’m not sure what life I’d choose
I could scratch a card for millions
But, I know that I would lose
Redefining life is crazy
So, a poet I shall be
‘til the angels come to take me
For my flight over the sea!

Beautiful write. I see it has touched others too. Poetry is like a song. It can sing out your frustrations, joys, concerns, faith or just plain sooth your troubled mind.

Well Done,
Lew

If I had not turned to writing poetry late in life,
I wouldn't have read this scrumptious thing you posted.
Might not have the best of worlds in retirement.
Never meet such good and kind friends on AD,
and would be a probable bore to everyone seeking something to do... like writing freee verse, and reading the poems of others.

Jill,

ONce the poetry bug bites, you have to write. :) And you do, in beautiful, perfect form: you're one of the best here for writing; you educate, entertain, inspire, and bring blessings to those who are fortunate enough to have you write a poem for them. Well done! Glad to call myself a Poet. I tell everyone I'm a full time poet. :)

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

To be called a poet isn't a crown that one can place upon ones self, but a royalty that only those who read and enjoy their words can bestow upon them. These lines do put you within the royal court.

Love it Jill!;-)me too! I think most poets are born that way, and would be miserable if they couldn't share their poems. Happy writing!

Eileen

If I lived not as a poet,

I would not paint a picture,

of my universe with words,

but I might be alot richer.

Beautiful and excellent write
Well I am retired but if i were not a poet
I don't know what I would have been
I know one thing, you'll find me not
On a rocking chair

Love & Peace
William
