The Greatest Gift

by Jill Eisnaugle — Read all 611 poems by Jill Eisnaugle

A poem about the creation of friends and the blessings our friends bring to our lives.

Poem Artwork

One day, God looked upon the earth
And saw an aching soul
Within, He knew her heart held worth
Although, she was not whole
His precious child needed a sign
A gift, sent from above
Created in His own design
To signify His love.

Diligently, He searched the blue
Looking from cloud to cloud
Only the perfect mould would do
To make His lost child proud
Then, suddenly, He drew a plan
His child could call her own
With map in hand, God’s work began
On the finest gift known.

He summoned every angel near
And took the best from each
His efforts, profound and sincere
Brought forth, within His reach
The greatest bequest He had made
And could ever extend
To prove His love shall never fade
He called His gift.... a friend.
