Innocence

by Jill Eisnaugle — Read all 611 poems by Jill Eisnaugle

A poem about the beauty found within a daughter's heart, expressing how quickly they grow.

Poem Artwork

A precious infant softly sleeps
Beneath a small mobile of stars
Her parents pray her blanket keeps
Her tiny heart safe from life’s scars
The angels painted on her walls
The toys nestled inside her crib
Will lead to when she trots the halls
With grape juice stains upon her bib.

Her fingers are too small to grip
Her hair is one red-tinted curl
But, soon enough, she’ll make the trip
From baby to a little girl
She’ll learn to crawl and then, to walk
She’ll learn to sip and then, to chew
She’ll learn to fuss and then, to talk
Much faster than one ever knew.

A precious infant quickly wakes
Beneath a small mobile of stars
She stumbles, every step she takes
But, her strong will, knows not of bars
Her innocence is pure and sweet
As perfect as the sun’s bright rays
A daughter makes this life complete
Today, tomorrow, and always.

Ah Jill this is sooo wonderfully true and now as I watch not only my daughter, who though in her thirties is still my little girl, and see her with her own daughter I know I have been blessed.

This is a classic piece on innocence with so much love readily visible between each line. Perfect rhyme and through such heart as this along with this makes this so beautiful.

How fast they grow! You captured the stages and now they will always be just as fresh! Oh, if only we could!
Adorable!
