Clowns

by Jill Eisnaugle — Read all 611 poems by Jill Eisnaugle

Clowns, through their humorous look and antics, have a wonderful ability when it comes to lightening a bad day. That said, all of us can be "clowns" in our own way, if we strive to help someone in need. Our efforts, like those of the clown, can assist others, if we lend a hand, for the sake of kindness.

Poem Artwork

Clowns can lift spirits when sad times appear
Through laughter, their joy can remove every tear
Their clothing and shoes help to bring a smile
Even in a heart that has suffered awhile
But, clowns can be made, without face paint and hair
Each one of us can be a clown, if we dare
Whenever we see someone feeling alone
We can brighten their day with the traits we own.

We may not be blessed with a talent for jokes
Or the poise to ride atop bicycle spokes
Yet, we can bring comfort by lending an ear
To someone who longs for another to hear
Each glimmer of light that our efforts extend
Could well be the balm which allows grief to end
By granting support, in a time filled with rain
We shall offer hope amid darkness and pain.

Clowns can lift spirits when sad times appear
By spreading encouragement, humor and cheer
Their style and charisma; their candor and grace
Can remove a frown upon any sad face
The joy that clowns bring is what sets them apart
But, each of us can be a joker at heart
If we take the time to come forth and give
Our hearts to another, each day that we live.

"Clowning" around is part and parcel of my family. It bridges sadness, invites sharing and caring, and brings a smile in spite of ones self. This is such a beautiful way of reminding each of us to participate in each other's lives.

Soooo right with this one, the ability to make someone laugh or smile goes a long way in the healing process.

We all need clowns in our world; too much sadness going on! Clowns allow us to laugh, forget of our troubles, even if only for a while. God bless the clowns!

Beautiful tribute to clowns. Unfortunately, many are scared of them, and it doesn't help by reading about serial killers dressed up as--nevermind. Would MUCH rather think about the ones who do good, who brighten up birthday parties and hospital wards with their special brand of humor: wonder if clowns cry under the mask? An excellent write, Jill, well done.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
