Christopher Columbus was sure the world was round;
With the help of Spaniards, his ships were ocean bound.
Miles and miles, he traveled with no land in his view;
Then, the page turned to October of 1492.
His sailors spotted land, which Columbus claimed for Spain;
A sighting that we honor when autumn comes again.
The second Monday in October, let us take time to say
We are thankful for our homeland, Happy Columbus Day!
