I must admit I don’t know why
Dogs chase cars and cats chase yarn
I can’t explain why sea gulls fly
Or why red paint adorns the barn
These questions keep my mind in check
And leave me grateful for each day
I may not know why chickens peck
But, I shall ponder anyway.
I may not understand the cause
Behind this life’s every effect
But, these moments shall give me pause
As I sit and try to dissect
The reasons why some objects float
While others sink in little time
Or how the classic poets wrote
Such meaningful verses of rhyme.
Life is unique, this much I’ll say
So many answers still unknown
I have so few and that’s okay
With each response I feel I’ve grown
I cannot say why oceans roar
Or why the snow-capped branches bend
But, I’ve no doubt I will explore
This world for answers, ‘til the end.
