Memories Carved in Stone

by Jill Eisnaugle — Read all 611 poems by Jill Eisnaugle

A poem about how pleasant memories can make a world of difference in bettering a bad day.

Poem Artwork

Special moments are carved in stone
The instant they are founded
We recall each when we’re alone
To know our hearts are grounded
The memories can make us laugh
And, sometimes, make us weep
For when faced with pain’s aftermath
These times are ours to keep.

Sweet memories serve as a balm
To heal the broken-hearted
Granting a short-lived sense of calm
When quiet has departed
A chance to see a brighter hour
Than the one we must face
Our recollections have the power
To fill our lives with grace.

Special moments rest in the mind
Remaining ours to treasure
These tributes to joy left behind
Confirm, beyond all measure
That when our hearts are forced to bear
The days which make us groan
Our memories will be waiting there
Forever carved in stone.

So magically true, and they help us to drop any bad attachments that may linger from a sad time, thus those sad times have no hold over one... Other than insecure folk, who can't see that moving on is an exciting adventure in this pilgrimage of life...

Such a beautiful and truth revealing write that gives sage advice to those of us who are feeling down and even to those of us who are content. We no not what tomorrow will bring and can only smile with the anticipation that we are here to see it.

This is true... special memories help me too. I sometimes feel that they're in a drawer, carefully stored there to help me feel better when facing something difficult. I think that everyone can relate to the content of your poem.

So beautiful, Jill, these moments, these memories (and that image--Alaska? Colorado?? Maybe Montana or Utah). Well penned.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
