All the way home, your smile was on my mind
I thought about you and how I had been blind
To think, for one moment, that you did not care
Whenever I struggled, you were always there
You never betrayed me nor led me off track
You gave me the courage to find my way back
And still, I refused to show you how I felt
In the hours and minutes you made my heart melt.

All the way home, I thought back to the days
When I failed to prove my commitment and praise
Toward the only soul that I’ve ever treasured
The one to whom all means of romance are measured
I was never versed in sweet words from the heart
So, I did not realize ‘til we were apart
How much I’d enjoyed every second we’d known
Or how it hurts so to, now, be on my own.

All the way home, your smile was on my mind
And, I could not help but let memories remind
Of the joy and wonder; the laughter and love
We knew, before my wings carried me above
Although time moves forward, I will always yearn
For one special day in which I may return
To thank you for guiding me throughout my strife
And for being the greatest love in my life.
