Tender-Hearted Soul

A poem about an elderly woman and how her outlook on life inspired her younger generations.

Poem Artwork

Each time I stop to think of you
I’m mindful of your soul
The special things you say and do
The way your words console
I look beyond your aging face
Since wrinkles matter not
You’ve lived your life by style and grace
And much good has been wrought.

My mind recalls a simpler time
Made harder by fate’s will
Yet, you have risen in your prime
Your faith beside you, still
You’ve made the most of the heartbreak
Your life’s been forced to bear
And carried on, for living’s sake
Since you’ve had much to share.

I think about the hours you’ve spent
Upon your hands and knees
Trying to make an honest cent
You’ve always aimed to please
You’ve shown us that each effort pays
In wealth, greater than dough
Your outlook on life deserves praise
From those who love you so.

Jill your grasp of the seniors is special and your love and respect shine through...it is rare in this day and age where too many seniors are shuffled off to nursing homes and only remembered with a ten minute visit at Christmas and Mother's Day.

Jill,

There was nothing I loved better than to talk to elderly people when I was younger - what they'd seen, how they lived when they were little - this is beautifully penned wisdom. Well done.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
