Mortarboards and Memories: Class of 2008

A poem for the Graduating Class of 2008.

Poem Artwork

Tonight, you stand upon this stage
To bid high school goodbye
You have finally come of age
So, spread your wings and fly
Rise higher than the tallest hill
Warmed by brilliant sunbeams
Class of ’08, I know you will
Embrace your hopes and dreams.

The memories you have, tonight
Will last your whole lives through
A path to glory is in sight
For every one of you
Although a few tears may be shed
As the mortarboards soar
Indeed, much promise lies ahead
The best is still in store.

Tonight, you stand upon this stage
For this, the final time
You are prepared to turn the page
Your lives are in their prime
Class of ’08, my best regards
Enjoy your lives’ new phase
May hope-filled days be in the cards
For each of you, always.

Amazing how much life changes just a few short months after graduation...
It will never be the same!

Nice, Jill! I remember my High School Graduation and how much of benchmark it seemed at that time. I am sure that your words will touch each of them.
Take care,
Sherry
