Few written pages can carry the magnitude of endearment that happens from a very personal letter. The contents of that piece of paper is often kept in a special location, a drawer, book, purse, wallet, jewel box, and taken out again and again, loved to rags like the Velveteen Rabbit. That the person's hand formed the words while thinking of the person who will read them, makes the piece of paper sacred . . . until it falls to pieces or the hand who holds it is no longer. ~~ digital painting by djl using 'Procreate' software.
There is something almost sacrosanct in such a letter,
and you have managed to covey the essence
of emotion that it instils, so artistically…
Your painting is also so authentically pleasing…
I wish I could read that letter that seems to be from a soldier during the Civil War. Such letters are now becoming part of archaeological and anthropological study. Being preserved on the Internet after being discovered in dusty old hiding places to be scanned and brought to life again as part of history.
Makes me wish my hands had worked better and I had been able to preserve so many letters that loved ones have written to me. I just got my annual letter from a cousin who doesn't have a computer. In red pen, on both sides of a small piece of paper, she outlines the whole year for her and her family so well filling every bit of the space with her easy to read, cursive style. Letter writing like that is a lost art. Thanks for reminding us of it.
Such lovely words, hand-written of course. When I enlarged and read the letter, I was surprised by the reference to "somewhere a flower is growing", which reminded me of an early poem of mine, and later my first collection of poems, with the title "Somewhere a Flower Blooms."
Such simplicity for what a few words can convey about love that is worth keeping close to the breast. There is the principle of passion and respect in the words that seem lacking in a lot of what tries to hold onto the magic some call love, but have never worked hard to pass through infatuation and arrive at the foundation of sentient understanding of seeing things as they are and as they might be gifted as a metaphor for values we often can't express. Bravo! So short, yet so enduring a period of time that is endless.
How important it is to be remembered by the ones that have
