Poem Artwork

Written back when I was sick
and never posted...

In my dream I was mesmerized
as I walked among aisles of mirrors
I saw me in every size and shape
like the funhouse at an amusement park

It was black and white so many images
I could hardly make them out, until
several mirrors burst into smaller shards
a flash of lightning they became vivid colors
in each one I saw my life passing me by

As a child rolling down hill til I lost my breath
another as a teen smoking my first cigaret
one of me making wild love to an older man
before I was married, and after sedately to my husband

The surreal scenes of me in hospital gowns
one in which I was having heart surgery
another  hovering over myself as I was dying
I was asking God the reason for all my illness
why was I dying so young ( at 15 had viral pneumonia)

As I continued watching the broken glass began
to assemble back into mirrors, with my image
only they were all of me as I  am now, I yelled "Make it all go away, I can't look anymore"
seeing one mirror with nothing but blood on it
I awoke feeling like I had burst  into pieces...

Wow! What a dream...a look at life throught the broken glass of time. Strange how one can have such deep and emotional dreams when we are sick. My mom had a strange dream when she was recovering from a heart attack. She dreamed of being in a room lying motionless and helpless the door open to expose a long hallway that almost every person in our family, and every friend she knew slowly walked past and stopped breifly and looked through the open door, spoke and walked on. She has tried to make sense of the dream for years, and can't. I told it that I thought it was the Lord's way of showing her just how many people cared about her. So glad that you did recover and are back posting wonderful works. Enjoyed!
Blessings,
Joyce B.

Happy Nightmares? and I thought I was the one with the weird visions!
But very vividly scenes reported by the author.
Happy she is with us and can tell about it.

Eileen,

This one is haunting...autobiographical excellence. We all have regrets. Well done, and I, too, am captivated by the image and your lines.

Eileen,

I thought your poem was outstanding my friend. I don't know if I would like to review pieces of my life. It would be very freightening in some parts but very beautiful in others. I don't remember this but my mother told me more than once than I had viral pneumonia at the age of 2. She was told that I had a 25% chance of pulling through. I'm glad God had a bigger plan for me. All we can do is thank Him and hope that we have live up to His expectations. Bless You My Friend, Always Paul.

ET,
Very impressive writing. Descriptive and I like the comparisons you made between whole glass versus shards, each with an image of you at various stages of your life. Almost autobiographical.

Peace,
George

How vivid the experience!
That was truly an out of body experience.
I'm glad you made it back, a sure sign you still have much to do with this life. Take care.
