Final Ping

by David Lester Young — Read all 1,103 poems by David Lester Young

We are born on a life line with a pulse to balance throughout life where upon a line we must write our existence.

Tis not life a balancing line?

Poem Artwork

Final Ping

I floated between a line,

Suspended adrift moving time.

Where one side was alive,

And the other was dead.

To balance upon a fulcrum

Traversing tick - hear, and near,

And tock gone so afar,

Tick tock’s around the clock.

Life line that passes senses

Upon the present tenses

In live sentences of existence

That wrinkle eyes so intense.

Tip to lift thy heart,

Tap to feel thy beat

Pulsating a pulse line,

In metronome timing.

Tis not music once played,

Upon a musical score line,

Echo in distinct clarity,

Once plucked into minds.

I floated between a line

That I do not know where,

Or how long a trail will follow.

Yet one must live for the future.

Drip a tear refreshed anew mist,

Drop years accrue contentment

That each ring carries the spring

That fall brings winter’s Final Ping.
